Curatorial/Architectural statement: Rainbow Ribbon - Unraveling the Lights
The installation of Rainbow Ribbon is a collective action initiated by Borneo Laboratory to unravel more lights (Talents. Positivity. Community) in Kuching with a series of curated collaboration, which inspired the architectural geometry of Rainbow Ribbon by integrating U + X to manifest the Unity of Art and a series of cross-overs.
The floating ribbon installation sit at where the existing and new development of the traffic garden meets. During the day, the light and shadow underneath the structure will present light reflection with a spectrum of colour via the holographic filter embedded within the transparent panels above. During the night, the linear lighting with varied colour will be activated together with the mist spray to display the rainbow like effect along the ribbon installation.
Through a series of cross overs, the programme features the exciting emergence chemistries celebrated with collaboration among architect, event manager, artists, performers, singers, composer, film-maker, poets, augmented reality technician, choreographer and dancers.
Our Mission. Our Aspiration
Rainbow Ribbon is a place making initiative we created collectively in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic to send the message of unity to Kuching community. Being an art collective that has experiences with public projects planning and delivery, we believe in all public projects of such kind should be a manifestation of the unity of all arts.
- ‘Uniting communities through Arts’ is the core mission Rainbow Ribbon wish to deliver in the public space, its presence is to unite the old and new communities by deploying ephemeral installation and digital art over the existing public infrastructures.
- ‘Public art in the New Normal’ is what we would like to explore, with a series of SOP compliance activities’ interfaces so the community can still enjoy art in public space safely.
- ‘Innovations through Collaboration’ is the spirit we would like to demonstrate through the delivery of the Rainbow Ribbon by setting up cross disciplinary collaborations among our tradesman, contractor and suppliers.
