2026/2027 Borneo Laboratory Research highlights

On Reciprocity

Knowledge grows through relationships.

Our research begins with listening.

Through encounters with people, places, materials, cultures and more-than-human worlds, we learn, question and return.

Our work explores reciprocity, place, cultural knowledge, ecology, resilience and regenerative practice, bringing situated knowledge from Borneo into dialogue with wider conversations across Asia and beyond.

Some questions become projects.
Some become gatherings.
Some become publications.

And some continue to change as they travel.

Our recent research includes Human-Nature: Relations, Resilience, Reciprocity, commissioned by the British Council Malaysia, and Place-Based Transcultural Practices: Designing Reciprocity, published in Diseña. Together with Our Climate Glossary and our wider body of collaborative research, these works reflect an ongoing inquiry into how we might create knowledge with, rather than simply about, the places and relationships that shape us.

Research is not separate from our practice.
It is how we listen, learn and make sense of what emerges.
