The materialisation of a product is a constant negotiation in making and application. At
most time, we find the application the crafts product influences its parameters in making,
namely material, composition and process. Apart from its physical function, the usage of
crafts also implies the belief system of the community, cultural consensus and spiritual
practice. In our first phase of the design and make workshop, students were encouraged to
choose a piece of their interest and document its making, using and the meaning behind it.
Final Design Review Session
That's a wrap for our one month long summer school programme with our dedicated students spending time exploring the potentials of our region specific materials: Tin, Rattan, Bark and Bamboo and finally giving it their own interpretation in their design.
Thanks to Boo Chuan William Khoo for joining us to share his valuable insights in their project.
