''Knocking the Bark" - Art Workshop Sharing I & II

"The bark cloth craft is also a common traditional skill among Austronesian-speaking communities, widely found in South America, Oceania, and Southeast Asia, including places like Hawaii, Fiji, and Sulawesi, renowned for its exquisite tools and innovative techniques. Unfortunately, Taiwan's bark cloth craft has been lost for half a century. We are striving to rediscover the early production methods, understand the influence of material selection, techniques, and tools on the texture of bark cloth. Through researching literature and scholars' studies, we have found similarities between the tools of the Amis tribe and those used in other Austronesian countries. In order to delve deeper into the crafting techniques of Amis bark cloth tools, we plan to visit several Austronesian-speaking countries for learning and technical exchange. We hope to gain valuable experiences and knowledge, which will further contribute to the revival of the Amis bark cloth craft."
