Siu siu - Lab of Primitive Senses seeks harmony in the nature and derives the creative energy from the coexistence, despite living in this world of fast-paced manufacture / consume / forgo / forget. During the period, I come to perceive the world in dichotomy: urban / nature, civilization / nature, developed / pristine, and thus I brought my own artist projects back into the wild and the pristine, choosing the remote in the city to be where I create arts.

Enchanted in the handcraft, artcraft, arts and things of beauty, I excel in the act of conceptualization - via the most immediate way - hand-contact the texture, the uneven touch of the surface was poured with the essence of life, documenting every single pressing and shaping, which reflect the very moment of myself.

Description

Borneo is home to one of the largest tropical rainforests in the world. The extensiveness of the region is only second to the Amazon Rainforest. Dwellings of the inhabitants vary from diverse races to indigenous people, each reflecting the abundance of the group’s own background and culture.

Discovering and utilizing the essence of the land itself, local materials such as tree barks and rattan were chosen to express the magnificent character of Borneo and to evoke re-imagination of the bond and unity between mankind and nature, by blending the ancestors’ wisdom in balance and harmony while reckoning the alterations of the modern world.

The diversities in character and textures of each piece of tree bark enriches one’s experience in the sense of touch. The tenderness and fineness of the tree barks could be captured from the expressiveness of the permeability toward the light source. The idea is to create a possibility and link to the infinite world through the exploration of both tree barks and senses.
